Deuteronomy: Chapter 7

The commands for utter destruction are difficult, are they not?  But they, too, are given in love and must be executed in confidence of God's goodness.  The actual words means to devote totally to the Lord.  We must devote ourselves--and others--to the purposes and plans of God.  To love God with all of our heart, mind and strength is a goal that is beyond our unredeemed capacity...only in the Spirit can we understand and pursue that goal.

We are to teach our children to live separated, devoted lives as well.  To be in the world but not of it is the same immense challenge as loving God with all of our capacities.  Our hope and inspiration is God's promise to faithfully keep His covenants.  Let us commit to remembering God's awesome power and plans for us.  If we do that, we will not fear the challenges of life.  We will not think we are the source of our success.  We will live for His goal of separate, pure lives that bring others to Him!
