Deuteronomy: Chapter 6

Christ's responses to Satan's temptations came from this chapter.  Doesn't it just thrill your soul to realize these are words Jesus Christ knew and used?  Obviously all of scripture is truth and is synonymous with Christ...but the fact that our Savior used these very words in His earthly life touches me deeply.

The commentary offers a great little summary for this chapter:  God's love for us is revealed in the law. Our love for Him is revealed in our obedience.  Indeed, the laws are for our good and obedience are a revelation of His glory!

We are to love God with all of our being for He has delivered us from captivity and longing to have us enter into the Promised Land.  The warning to take care that God is not forgotten in the midst of the blessings bears heeding today.  Persecution is not our greatest spiritual enemy; often, blessings are far more dangerous.  Remembering God's deliverance, expressing thankfulness for His blessings--keeping Him first is a critical aspect of parenting as well.  While God has 'no grandchildren', we have a grave responsibility to pass our knowledge and memories onto the next generation!
