Deuteronomy: Chapter 16

The nation of Israel was commanded to keep three specific feasts.  The Passover Feast is most familiar to us and reminded the Israelites of their deliverance.  I was struck by the reminder that God brought them 'forth at night.'  Deliverance is a blessing that came through the dark of night--isn't that a wonderful reminder in our darkest times?  The Feast of Weeks was to take place seven weeks after the beginning of harvest (7 weeks times 7 days is 49 and the celebration was on the 50th day:  Pentecost in the Christian calendar).  Finally, the Feast of Tabernacles celebrated the harvest and blessings of God.  Every call to come worship the Lord was a call to celebrate...we have a great and gracious God who wants us to invite others to celebrate with us!

Finally, the chapter closes with a reminder that judges will be needed...and that justice must never be bought off or sold out.  We are to worship God, celebrate Him and do justly to all.
