Exodus: Chapter 14

When life seems to be one barrier after another, THIS is the chapter to read!  The reminders are many and powerful.  Let's enjoy.  First we can be reminded that God knows what the enemy thinks and what he will do; better yet, God knows how best to bring good to us and glory to Himself!  Upon hearing God's explanation, the Israelites were immediately willing to be part of His plan; then the reality of His plan became clear and fear produced critical complaints!  Can't you relate?  We are excited to be a part of the great commission until we see the reality of the rebellious, stubborn, critical souls we are called to serve.  Just like the Israelites, we are tempted to fear and rebel from the mission we have received, but perfect love casts out all fear.  We must follow Moses example:  neither he, nor God were deterred though and God's purposes marched forth.

In a situation with no escape, God indeed did (and will) make a way.  Furthermore, God stands between us and the enemy and we can not be reached without the enemy 'going through' Him.  It was good to be reminded that while God makes a way, we must march forward.  The opening in the Red Sea would not have 'delivered' the Israelites if they had not gone forth.  Salvation is a free gift to which we must enter in.  While we are to stand still to see what God will do on our behalf, we must move forward into the paths He has prepared for us.  Finally, we can be confident that God's 'got our back'--He is our rear guard.  His guidance, His protection and His provision are promises He is faithful to fulfill.  What we see is only earthly reality; we must press on to the eternal reality!
