Flowing uphill

I arrived at the book of Isaiah this morning!  I love Isaiah, and yet, it breaks my heart.  I see America every time I read it; and it isn't pretty.  But Isaiah reminds me that our call is to serve God--God who is lifted high and is Holy, Holy, Holy.  We are not to serve results or worry about what others are doing.

Isaiah is 'undone' by the awesomeness of God and hears the question, 'Who will go?'   When Isaiah says, 'I will,' he's told his message will go unheeded until the land is desolate.  Phew.  That's not what we expect, and it's not a job assignment that delights the ego.  We want to serve God and see the lands explode with His glory.  We want our work to reward us with success.  Faith in God's ultimate working out of His perfect plan must sustain us.  We do not serve ourselves or man; we must constantly remember God's exalted being.

Here's a beautiful word picture that brings a smile (and joyful excitement) to my heart:

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.   Isaiah 2:2

Do you see it?  A river of people flowing uphill!  We all whine about the difficulties in life, but one day the glory of God will exert a power that overcomes the challenges.  The journey of life is individual; don't be sucked into the vortex of what others are doing.  Heed His call and trust Him to do the work He purposes. Let His glory draw you up the mountain to Him so that others will see and come under the power of His awesomeness too!
