Deuteronomy: Chapter 31

Our courage and strength is in the truth that God will never leave or forsake us.  Yet our human tendency is to rely on the blessings God gives--rather than on God Himself.  Leaders are a blessing from God--but they are no substitute for God.  Moses' time as a leader was drawing to a close.  God clearly spoke that truth to Moses and revealed to him that Joshua was to step into the leadership role.  The words to Joshua and the people are the same:  Do not fear or be discouraged for God is with you.  What a beautiful truth for us to mull in our hearts day by day.  God is unchanging; His faithfulness to us is the same as His faithfulness to the Moses, to Joshua and to the Israelites.

Moses, like God, knew the propensity of the people to turn from God.   We, too, have that same propensity.  Yet God's purposes remain--just like His presence remains.  Tomorrow, we will look at the song God wanted Moses to teach the people--the song which is to remind them (and us) of God's enduring purposes and presence.  Have a blessed day!
