Leviticus: Chapter 18

Sexual immorality is not a recent development; nor is its impact less devastating today than it was centuries ago.  God has a purpose in His perfect design; choosing any other way than His prescribed plan is the pathway to destruction and death.

Sexual immorality involves dishonor--of self, others and God.  By the end of this chapter it is revealed that individuals, nations and even the land is made unclean by gross immorality.  The preceding chapters have emphasized the need for God's children to discern between clean and unclean.  With sexual immorality, the issue becomes creating unclean-ness.  While all sin is against God and damages others, this particularly area of sin evidently perpetuates unclean-ness in new ways; our holy God is detailed in His prohibitions.

God's restrictions are always protective.  His love for us--His crowning creation--is always behind every instruction.  Our high privilege of being created in the image of God brings high responsibility.  Only by learning His plans and purposes can we enjoy life as He intends!
