Numbers: Chapter 23

Balaam vacillates a bit in this chapter…he seems to want to have it both ways:  prophet of God, friend of Balak.  God calls us to be a peculiar people…separated, different.  It makes me sad that he does hear God, yet he doesn’t seem to revere God.  Perhaps it makes me sad because I see that all around me.  Balaam even says, ‘let me die the death of the righteous and may my end be like theirs’ as he speaks of the Israelites.  We will read of his end in a few chapters; we can’t live as unrighteous and die righteously.  Again, may we learn well the error of Balaam--and avoid it.
