Genesis: Chapter 9

The value God places on life and the responsibility we each bear for the way we touch other lives were clear principles in my mind as I read this chapter.  The previous chapter closed with God's covenant promise to man and this one opens with His blessed instruction to be fruitful!  Life is a precious gift from God and He expects us to be productive...to live and bring life.

Physical life is precious but life is more than our physical life.  As I read on through the sad story of Ham's (and evidently Canaan's) disrespect of their heritage--of Noah--I see our individual responsibility is beyond the 'life blood.'  We have all inherited a legacy and we are all creating a legacy.  When we place our inheritance (and legacy) in the hands of our Creator, He weaves a beautiful masterpiece. We place both in His hands by living by His principles and by loving as He has loved us.  We are to value the people God has placed in our lives.  We are to value the unique souls, imperfect humanity like ourselves, which God gives us the privilege of encountering.  We all have weaknesses and even sins that can be 'covered' with love.  We are called to love because loving gives life and we are called to be fruitful.  Let's commit to loving--and living--well in 2011.  Blessings to you!
